Our Homeless Persons' Legal Clinic (HPLC) worked with partner firms, host community agencies and colleagues in the community legal sector to ensure that clients experiencing homelessness, mental illness and related forms of disadvantage were resourced to successfully navigate the G20. The HPLC contributed to community and service provider forums, conducted volunteer lawyer training and developed resources, such as an informal 'identification (ID) template'. These IDs were well received in the community sector, helping to facilitate positive interactions between vulnerable people and the police during the G20. With support from Ashurst, Mission Australia's Roma House and the Queensland Council of Social Service we purchased and distributed around 800 lanyards and transparent pouches to over 25 community agencies across Brisbane, which were used by disadvantaged clients to hold their tailored ID. The HPLC also responded to several media requests, offering comments regarding our collaborative involvement in G20.
