Often complex legal and social issues can form part of the environmental causes of ill-health in patients. The Health Advocacy Legal Clinic uses a combination of medical, social work and legal skills to address the issues confronting patients.
How the Health Advocacy Legal Clinic works
Patients at participating hospitals are referred by hospital social workers, nurses and clinicians to the Health Advocacy Legal Clinic. A team comprising of law students, social work students, medical students and a supervising lawyer assist in addressing the legal and social challenges facing the client.

- powers of attorney;
- advanced care plans;
- guardianship and administration;
- mental health law;
- discrimination; and
- other civil law issues
